Course Description

The learning of grammar is directly correlated to our experiences in life. Typical students experience life through watching others, experimentation, rehearsal, discussion and communication – all of which are challenging for students with autism!

Teachers and caregivers can teach language and grammar skills in a more meaningful way by using visual strategies and language-learning habits.
Participants in this workshop will be given the knowledge and skills to facilitate the development of higher-level, more abstract language concepts and grammar skills within a functional language programme.

Participants will also be introduced to a variety of visual strategies to make higher-level language learning more successful.

 

Objectives of The Course
 

Upon completion of the training workshop, participants will be able to:

wh03 Understand language learning challenges in autism
wh03 Understand the normal development of language and grammar skills
wh03 Apply a variety of autism-friendly teaching strategies to spoken and academic language learning through:
 
  • Experience
  • Visual recall, association, organisation
  • Integration into everyday life
  • Linking to curriculum
